College Football Bowl Games That Should Be Played
We have several articles on the bowl series and once again going through every game I have to ask myself why we get some of the match-ups we got. The fact is conferences are tied to bowl games and because of that we sometimes get game match-ups that make you scratch you head.
What if the BSC Bowl Games were set by the finishing order of the final BCS Standings? Personally I think the games would be much more competitive and the match-up of #9 West Virginia vs. #10 Hawaii would sell me on this approach all by itself.
Here is how the games would have matched up if they played by final ranking.
# 1 Ohio State vs. #2 LSU
Just like the Great Led Zeppelin “the song remains the same” and this is the only game that would not change if the BDC bowl games were played by the final standing in the BCS.
#3 Virginia vs. Tech #4 Oklahoma
The real bowl game has Oklahoma matching up against West Virginia and VT matching up against Kansas. Kansas brings an intrigue with just about any team just because of the year they have had. In our match-up we would bring a great defense in VT against strong offense in Oklahoma. Oklahoma finished the year at 11 – 2 and beat then #1 Missouri. I actually think Oklahoma is better then both of the teams playing in the National Championship game. I guess the only problem I have with this match-up is the fact that if VT won the game they would end up being the #2 team in the country and their not. Marks Opening Line: Oklahoma -6
#5 Georgia vs. #6 Missouri
Like Kansas any match-up with Missouri will bring intrigue and I much rather see Georgia play this game then tier real match-up against Hawaii. Our flavor of the bowl game here would match-up an 11- 2 Georgia team against an 11 – 2 Missouri team and you can’t get a much closer game then that. Marks Opening Line: Georgia -3
#8 Southern California vs. #7 Kansas
USC might just be the best team in the country when healthy and matching them against the upstart Kansas Jayhawks brings much more intrigue then USC playing Big-10 Illinois. We have two power house offense squaring off as USC averaged more then 418 yards of offense and Kansas averaged more then 490 yards of offense. USC averaged more then 31 points a game and Kansas averaged more then 44 points a game. I like this match-up much better then the ones each team is playing. Marks Opening Line: USC -4
#9 West Virginia vs. #10 Hawaii
Are you kidding me? How could the BSC not see this match-up? While the real match-up between Georgia will bring interest to see if Hawaii can hang with Georgia could you imagine the interest this game would bring? We all know about the WV running game with White and Slaton, they can score from anywhere. We all know about Hawaii’s passing attack. I want this game and the scoring could go on forever. They could hit 200 if they went into OT. This game makes my case for me. Mark’s opening Line: WV -6 with an over/under of 99
While this in not reality and these are not the bowl games this year I enjoyed reviewing these match-ups as much as the “real” one.
